Happy 4th of July Los Angeles! While everyone else is busy grilling and chilling on this festive holiday, I’ve been brushing up on my rockabilly and getting familiar with a well-established L.A-based band by the name of Miss Derringer. This fiery quintet is fronted by sultry singer Liz McGrath, and lists their influences as “art, Old Country, 60s Girl Groups, Spaghetti Westerns, Books On Tape, and Downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row.” Thankfully the music on their upcoming LP Winter Hill is more cohesive than the hodgepodge of sources from which the band draws inspiration. Miss Derringer combines sultry vocals, a macabre attitude, and stomping beats to create an energetic sound that’s unique and fun.
In celebration of their upcoming release, Miss Derringer will be throwing a CD Release party at the Knitting Factory in West Hollywood on July 18, 2009 with special guest Girl In A Coma. This is an ALL AGES show, so bring your friends, and head down to Hollywood Blvd for a montage of alternative rock. Come support local live music, and get a taste of Miss Derringer’s forthcoming album Winter Hill. It’s going to be a great show, so don’t miss it!
